Wouldn't it be wonderful if, instead of giving/receiving physical presents for birthdays, we could give/receive a gift voucher: 30 days of cooperation, obedience, unconditional assent; 40 hours of truly undivided attention; presence at 50 mealtimes... redeemable in part or full, and valid for a year
